Carbon
Audio Branding and UI Sound
Carbon
Carbon develops innovative tools to accelerate bringing products to market for automotive, dental, and other industries. Carbon needed an audio logo for marketing, so we worked with their team to create one that fully represents the company. Additionally, we developed the User Experience (UX) sound design for the release of their flagship 3D printers, the M3 and M3 Max.

Audio Logo
Through discussions with Carbon’s team, we determined the audio logo should embody a set of specific concepts, serving as an anchor for their audio brand:
Ambitiously Optimistic
Inspiring, Inviting, and Enabling
Influenced by the Kinetic Energy of the Product
Evokes a sense of "Sunrise" and "New Horizons"
We turned these concepts into a story arc consisting of three key moments.
The moment where the logo begins, punctuating the preceding content with confidence.
Carbon’s products enable a range of exciting possibilities to manufacturers.
An optimistic chime that welcomes users to the possibilities offered by Carbon’s technology.

UX Sound Design
Through sound, we clarified the user experience and extended Carbon’s audio brand. We utilized various feedback sounds to reinforce user confidence. Alerts were also added to draw attention to errors a technician might not immediately see.
"Customers have told us they love the audio feedback and like that the machine doesn’t sound ‘industrial.’ The sounds allowed them to work more efficiently and increase the turnaround time."
-Byron Lee, Lead Industrial Designer at Carbon

We solved several design challenges posed by the M3 Hardware.
It operates in loud manufacturing environments.
The audio speaker is located behind a moving glass shield, requiring multiple versions of loudness states.
The large internal cavity of the machine produces extreme resonant frequencies (distorted “ringing” sounds.)
With all of these constraints in mind, we designed a polished sonic experience tailored for Carbon’s sophisticated machines.
